Vermeer’s Legacy

Introduction
In our third exhibition at Nose, we invite you to celebrate the every-day and the banal in painting.
This exhibition has been inspired by the legacy of Johannes Vermeer and the
Golden Age of Dutch painting.
The exhibition “Spanish Diaries” shows about 25 works altogether – hand made and wood fired ceramics by
Julie Antonyuk, and figurative oil paintings by Anastasia Belous.
We would like you to enter with us the quite and safe space of one’s home, to take note and to glorify the objects that surround us, to learn to see the symbolism in simple objects, and to understand the meaning and the important history behind a still-life painting. The lesser sought-for subject matter has many surprises.
For this exhibition we have grouped together different paintings by six mid-career artists.
All visit the theme of the every-day and yet express it in profoundly different artistic styles – from old master technical skills to flattening the surface, to bordering with abstraction, to playing with reality and entering surrealism, to using the b&w language of drawing and print.
It is a thrill, a feast for the eyes, that we at Nose are thrilled to be sharing with you.
